Leadership Development Events

Leadership Development Events (LDE) are held in the fall semester each year. These events are designed to develop and promote FFA members' ability to effectively communicate and obtain valuable leadership skills that will help prepare them for adult life.

Many LDEs have two levels of competition. The Greenhand level is reserved specifically for FFA members who are competing for the first time and are enrolled in their first semester of AFNR classes. Some of the Greenhand events further stipulate that the contestants be in the 7th, 8th or 9th grade. Senior level LDEs are open to all secondary grade students who are FFA members.

The majority of LDEs are held at the district, area and state level, however several do advance to a national FFA level competition which is held at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana each year in October.

The district level competitions are held throughout Area XII in early November. The area level competitions are held at the Area XII LDE on November 17 at East View High School in Georgetown. The state level competitions are held on November 30 and December 1 at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville.
